\u201cRetroman\u00eda: La adicci\u00f3n del pop a su propio pasado\u201d (2011), Simon Reynolds nos ofrece una interpretaci\u00f3n bastante aguda de la industria musical contempor\u00e1nea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En el lado positivo, Reynolds insiste en que, como nunca antes en la historia, la m\u00fasica se ha expandido a niveles at\u00f3micos. Especialmente gracias a lo que entendemos como m\u00fasica indie o independiente.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para muchos es dif\u00edcil determinar qu\u00e9 es exactamente; algunos lo consideran un g\u00e9nero en s\u00ed mismo, mientras que otros ven que abarca una amplia variedad de subg\u00e9neros y estilos como Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Indie Alternativo, POV: Indie, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sin embargo, en lo que s\u00ed podemos estar de acuerdo es en que se caracteriza por su enfoque artesanal y DIY (hazlo t\u00fa mismo) tanto en la producci\u00f3n como en la promoci\u00f3n. La m\u00fasica indie se distingue por su independencia creativa y comercial, permitiendo a los artistas gestionar sus proyectos sin las limitaciones de la industria musical convencional. Esta independencia ha sido posible gracias a la accesibilidad de las herramientas y recursos necesarios para producir m\u00fasica, lo que ha permitido a artistas de todos los niveles crear canciones, \u00e1lbumes y sinfon\u00edas enteras desde la comodidad de nuestros hogares.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Las mejoras t\u00e9cnicas han puesto al alcance de las clases trabajadoras los insumos necesarios para poder producir canciones, discos y sinfon\u00edas completas bajo techo. As\u00ed, se ha vuelto relativamente baja la inversi\u00f3n necesaria para equiparnos en nuestras respectivas habitaciones con placas de sonido, micr\u00f3fonos, antipops, DAWs y computadoras que nos permitan procesar sonidos de una manera m\u00e1s que satisfactoria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los artistas independientes hemos logrado, quiz\u00e1s sin quererlo, eliminar al costoso intermediario que representaban los estudios de grabaci\u00f3n durante el siglo XX y principios del XXI. Esta \u201csuperaci\u00f3n\u201d, por as\u00ed decirlo, tambi\u00e9n ha invitado a los m\u00fasicos contempor\u00e1neos a interesarse por nuevas ramas de la est\u00e9tica sonora: ya no importa solo nuestro instrumento y las horas que dedicamos a la perfecci\u00f3n de la ejecuci\u00f3n; ya no importa solo nuestro amplificador y las diferentes formas en que responde a nuestro toque, sino que ahora tambi\u00e9n es crucial entender qu\u00e9 sucede con nuestros pedales, nuestros plugins, nuestro Shure M57, nuestros programas de edici\u00f3n de audio, etc\u00e9tera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En este contexto, la supuesta orfandad en la que habitamos ahora los m\u00fasicos independientes, completamente vac\u00edos de grandes sellos interesados en nuestra m\u00fasica, pero tambi\u00e9n vac\u00edos de los t\u00e9cnicos que \u201cordenaban\u201d nuestro caos compositivo, nos ha empujado a profesionalizarnos hasta la m\u00e9dula.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ox en Mayo Alto, nuestra banda, comenz\u00f3 a producir m\u00fasica precisamente en este contexto. No solo lejos de la industria musical contempor\u00e1nea sino tambi\u00e9n, y por extra\u00f1o que parezca, de lo que entendemos por \u201csociedad\u201d: nuestros primeros EPs fueron compuestos, dise\u00f1ados y formados en los fat\u00eddicos meses de los confinamientos por la pandemia de COVID. La imposibilidad de ver a nuestros amigos y seres queridos nos empuj\u00f3 a \u201ccontarnos\u201d otra historia sobre el mundo, como si, detr\u00e1s de la pandemia, las muertes, las vacunas y el dolor generalizado, hubiera un silencio total, una duda profunda, un nuevo espacio que nos permitiera crear otro universo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-45441\" src=\"https:\/\/sepulchralsilence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_9302.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1651\" height=\"1214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sepulchralsilence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_9302.jpg 1651w, https:\/\/sepulchralsilence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_9302-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sepulchralsilence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_9302-1024x753.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sepulchralsilence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_9302-768x565.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sepulchralsilence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_9302-1536x1129.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1651px) 100vw, 1651px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Como una banda formada durante el auge de la era de Internet, comenzamos a trazar v\u00ednculos digitales entre nuestras composiciones y otras expresiones art\u00edsticas: desde la poes\u00eda hasta la narrativa, desde las artes pl\u00e1sticas hasta las artes multimedia, desde el teatro hasta el mundo cinematogr\u00e1fico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sin embargo, como dice Reynolds, no todo fue y es beneficioso en el nuevo panorama de la m\u00fasica occidental. El impacto de la tecnolog\u00eda, si bien abri\u00f3 el camino a nuevas formas de experimentaci\u00f3n musical, parece haber vuelto automatizables y reproducibles escenas musicales que antes requer\u00edan un trabajo anal\u00f3gico. Esta escena, tomada por s\u00ed misma, no es necesariamente negativa. Un ejemplo de aplicaci\u00f3n exitosa puede ser el caso de gran parte de la cultura hip-hop, que logr\u00f3 desarrollarse como tal a trav\u00e9s del \u201csampling\u201d y la reversi\u00f3n, siempre t\u00e9cnica \u2014es decir, tecnol\u00f3gica\u2014, de materiales musicales antiguos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Este fen\u00f3meno se vuelve, eso s\u00ed, de alguna manera perjudicial cada vez que se ata a las exigencias del mercado, hoy determinado por la velocidad, la instantaneidad y la necesidad de producir contenidos en masa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bajo la forma de productos enlatados, estos nuevos contenidos parecen estar vac\u00edos de fondo. Los g\u00e9neros m\u00e1s populares de nuestro tiempo (desde ciertas expresiones del pop hasta ciertas expresiones del rock est\u00e1ndar, trap, reggaet\u00f3n, entre otros) provocan a veces la sospecha de que la misma caja de ritmos, el mismo timbre, la misma progresi\u00f3n de acordes bajo los mismos tonos, la misma cadencia arm\u00f3nica y mel\u00f3dica parecen ser el trasfondo sonoro de nuestra \u00e9poca.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La repetici\u00f3n infinita de lo enlatado no parece ser el \u00fanico problema resaltado por el cr\u00edtico brit\u00e1nico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simon Reynolds insiste en que la fragmentaci\u00f3n y diversidad del panorama musical ha resultado, en la mayor\u00eda de sus expresiones, en una \u201cadicci\u00f3n\u201d al pasado. La nostalgia, fruto de una idea espont\u00e1nea de que \u201ctodo tiempo pasado fue mejor\u201d, nos invita hoy a un reciclaje constante de sonidos y estilos del ayer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As\u00ed, a la repetici\u00f3n infinita de \u201clo enlatado\u201d, dice Reynolds, se suma la repetici\u00f3n infinita de \u201clo viejo\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo proteger, entonces y bajo este nuevo contexto, cualquier vector de innovaci\u00f3n u originalidad? \u00bfC\u00f3mo producir un arte comprometido con su tiempo y su propio mensaje? \u00bfC\u00f3mo incorporar lo valioso del mundo de hoy y del mundo de ayer para producir la m\u00fasica del ma\u00f1ana? \u00bfC\u00f3mo surfear la ola protegiendo el n\u00facleo espiritual de nuestros proyectos, pero al mismo tiempo sin ser arrastrados por ella?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al menos nuestra posici\u00f3n, la de Ox en Mayo Alto, pero tambi\u00e9n la de muchas otras bandas, incluso bandas amigas nucleadas en Sepulchral Silence, parece ser la que en ajedrez se conoce como Zugzwang: aquella en la que cualquier movimiento permitido significa empeorar la situaci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo puede empeorar, entonces, para mejor?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nos gustar\u00eda hacer la m\u00fasica del ma\u00f1ana, sin saber c\u00f3mo. Nos gustar\u00eda poder vivir de nuestro producto, sin saber c\u00f3mo comercializarlo. Nos gustar\u00eda entrar en los circuitos necesarios, pero sin conocerlos. Nos gustar\u00eda ser parte del mundo contempor\u00e1neo, pero lo suficientemente lejos de \u00e9l.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suena a capricho, a comportamiento peligroso, pero tambi\u00e9n a una especie de adicci\u00f3n: la de conducir a toda velocidad, sabiendo que mucho m\u00e1s adelante, en cuanto termine la curva, hay una pared.
