Registered users can listen to unlimited audio and can upload up to 180 minutes of audio to their profile at no cost. SoundCloud distributes music through widgets and apps. Users can place the widget on their own websites or blogs, and SoundCloud will automatically tweet out each uploaded track.

Features

Key features of SoundCloud include the ability to access uploaded files via unique URLs, allowing sound files to be embedded in Twitter and Facebook posts. A file can be embedded by clicking a corresponding share button for the destination site (e.g., Twitter).
SoundCloud visually represents audio tracks as waveforms and allows users to post “timed comments” on specific parts of any track. These comments are displayed while the associated audio segment is playing.

Users can create playlists and “Like” (specific tracks, which are then saved on the user’s “Likes” page), “Repost,” “Share,” “Follow” another user, and make free downloads of their available audio. SoundCloud supports AIFF, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, OGG, MP2, MP3, AAC, AMR, and WMA files and then transcodes them to MP3 at 128 kbit/s and Opus at 64 kbit/s for streaming purposes.
